Vestibular rehabilitation is a treatment for a range of disorders that cause dizziness and balance problems. One of the most common disorders is one that effects the inner ear, causing intense dizziness on certain head and neck movements. This disorder is known as BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo).

What is vestibular rehabilitation?
Following a thorough assessment from our specialist physiotherapist Annie Ray a personalised Vestibular Rehabilitation exercise programme will be developed. The programme will consist of specific eye, head and neck exercises specific to dizziness and vertigo, as well as balance exercises and education/advice on falls prevention and improving function with activities of daily living.

Physiotherapy treatment has been shown to be clinically effective in significant improvement of Vestibular disorders:

80 per cent of patients with unilateral vestibular loss (e.g. labyrinthitis, acoustic neuroma surgery)
80 per cent of patients with BPPV after one treatment session
Patients with a central cause (e.g. stroke) may show some improvement
Use of VR in concussion, migraine, and nonspecific balance loss of the elderly may be helpful.
At Brighton Physiotherapy Clinic, we put an emphasis on improving quality of life and taking a holistic approach to treatment and minimise distressing symptoms.
